Commitment: The Starting Point
Have you ever heard of greenwashing?
Greenwashing
It’s when a company spends more time and money on marketing itself as “environmentally green” than on minimising its environmental impact.
Greenwashing is all about pretention.
The truth is that greenwashing cannot lead us anywhere. What we need is a strong commitment. Commitment to ourselves, to our environment, to making change happen. And we need to do it now!
Many companies are innovating to manage waste responsibly. Here are a few fascinating examples.
Case 1: The Nike Grind
Nike, a shoe company, has taken many innovative initiatives to build creative and useful products out of waste generated from their products.
For instance, the company used these:
Manufacturing scrap
Unused materials
End-of-life shoes
To build these:
Basketball court
Low-carbon footwear
Skateboarding shoes
Case 2: Samsung’s Product Repurposing
Samsung Electronics has brought about amazing inventions too. The company is repurposing its older Galaxy smartphones to improve healthcare facilities for underserved communities around the world.
Transforming old Galaxy phones into diagnostic instruments
These are just some examples. Many companies around the world are making responsible waste management a key priority.
Where do we stand?
PMI has many reasons to be proud. Here are a few!
Triple A
Our score received from Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for efforts in combating climate change, protecting forests and promoting water security
-18%
Reduction we achieved in CO2e emissions across our value chain (scope 1+2+3) versus our 2019 baseline
84%
Recycling rate of IQOS devices returned at our centralised recycling hubs
And we’re not going to stop here. Let's continue to work together to make a much bigger impact!
